BC Reports

Black Country Knowledge is home to a wide range of times series data sets, which we regular maintain and update. These indicators form part of the Black Country Performance Management Framework which enables us to understand if we are making real progress towards achievement of our Black Country aspirations as set out in the Black Country Vision and the ‘Black Country Strategy for Growth and Competitiveness’.

We analyse this data and add information to it to transform it into intelligence. With this intelligence we produce easy to read regular and timely reports which we call the Black Country Barometers. These reports provide clear analysis of recent data and enables debate to be evidence driven. The barometer reports are produced on a themed basis:

  • Business Barometer: providing information on the New Business Statistics – covering the new national indicators - Business Registration rate (NI 171) and Small Businesses showing Employment Growth (NI 172). The report also provides information on business survival rates, employment and wage data.

  • Place Barometer: focusing on the ‘place indicators’ in the Black Country Performance Management Framework including employment land and housing and results of the recent Place survey.

  • People Barometer: focusing on education and skills data

  • State of the Sub-Region - an annual report which enables us to clearly evaluate the impact of the Black Country regeneration strategies on the sub-region in the context of the Black Country Performance Management Framework

    Other reports include:

  • Black Country Recession Intelligence - a bi monthly bulletin which provides real time evidence to stimulate evidence based policy debate and ensure that the Black Country voice is heard across the sub-region and in regional and national forums.

  • Black Country Strategic Companies - an analysis of the key strategic companies in the Black Country.
